Review: Chocolashea line ♥

I came across this WONDERFUL company called Chocolashea. I have always saw posts of these awesome products on my Facebook timeline and have been dyyyying to try it out. I grabbed a haircare sampler combo while there was a 25% off code being offered.

The haircare sampler combo includes the Aloe Spritz Healing Conditioner, African Black soap and Chocolate Whipped Hair Butter with Black Seed Oil.

First let me say her packaging was a-dor-able. I am obviously in love with anything cutesy and girly and this line has seriously got me sold!! The smells are sooooo yummy! My daughter and I couldn't get enough of it.

Let me start off with the Aloe Spritz Healing Conditioner. This is an Aloe-Vera multi-purpose spritzer.

The claim: Soothes dry and damaged hair and skin. Protects against the sun and will leave your hair and skin moisturized, super soft and refreshed and looking hydrated.

Ingredients: organic aloe-vera, glycerin, honey grape-seed oil, jojoba oil, vitamin e, essentail oil blend, natural fragrance

This spritz is aaaamazing. I have never used a daily spritz on Leelee before and always wanted to. This is perfect! After spritzing this on Leelee's hair it left it sooo moisturized right away! It also leaves the right shine to it. Plus, it smells just like a candy cane! The only thing I don't like about it is that it leaves my hands pretty sticky. It leaves her hair the same way if I apply too much but eventually her hair soaks it up and it disappears.

First off, this product smells like nutty chocolate! MMmmmmM good! This product is pretty thick and doesn't melt easily for us. I normally wouldnt use products like this but it did a really good job at moisturizing her hair and keeping it that way. It smells so delicious and works great as a combo with the spritz. Everytime Leelee sees me pulling it out to usr on her she goes, "yayy! Chocolate for m hair!"

I love love love the candied cakes cuticle and massage oil! It smells like sugary sweet cookie and cakes! I have to hide it from Leelee or she will try to use it all! Lol i'm so sad though because I decided to carry it in my purse and half of the bottle (4oz!!) emptied out into my purse! Atleast, my purse smells good now :(

The chocolate lip balm was too dry for my lips and didn't do much moisturizing. The other cuticle was something I liked, too!

Nakia Amour Pre-conditioner Hair Oil $18.00

The Nakia Amour Pre-Conditioner Oil is for those battling dry hair.

Directions: Apply Pre-Conditioner Oil to dry hair and let sit for 45 minutes or longer. Water rinse then shampoo with Nakia Amour Black Soap Shampoo and rinse again. Condition with Nakia Amour moisture enriched conditioner.

The claim: Hair should be easier to detangle and show a noticeable difference in moisture, softness, elasticity and shine.

Our review: I love this stuff!!! When I first opened it I was a bit surprised because it said pre conditioner OIL, I was assuming it would be liquid. After, emailing Nakia she informed me that it should actually be pretty thick because of the ingredients. I later realized that was correct, and once in my hand it melted right into her hair. I also realized this pre conditioner oil was similiar to my shea butter mix I would use to saturate her hair with the night before her bath. I parted her hair.into small sections and applied from root to tip and let it sit anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour+. I love this product and the results it gives us. It makes her hair really soft especially after shampooing. I also like the peppermint in it, giving that light cooling, fresh effect. It also smells wonderful.

This product can also be used as a hair oil by applying to both hair and scalp for extra conditioning benefits and sheen throughout the week. I have only used it as a pre-conditioner but I bet it would work great as an oil as well. Overall, a definite 5/5!

Nakia Amour Black Soap Facial Wash & Shampoo 12 oz. $16.00

The Nakia Amour Black Soap Facial Wash & Shampoo is a 2 & 1 cleanser that moisturizes without drying skin and hair.

Directions: Apply shampoo directly onto wet hair and massage gently until lather. Rinse out and proceed to condition.

A great solution for combo/oily skin, acne, dandruff and blemishes. Black soap has been used for eczema, psoriasis and dry/itchy scalp over the years and still works today! The 2 & 1 leaves skin feeling refreshed and hair soft & revived. SHAKE WELL.

Our review: This is the first time using a black soap shampoo and I have always heard good things about it. So I was really excited to try this out. Since I have never tried black soap before and use to traditional shampoo, I was a bit surprised by the consistency and how liquidy it was. Regardless, this product did NOT disapppoint. I applied the shampoo after rinsing out the pre-conditioner oil. It left her hair really clean and shiny. It did not leave it feeling stripped at all. I really love this product. I have not used this product as a face wash but would love to try one day. Overall, another 5/5

Nakia Amour Moisturizing Conditioner 8 oz. $16.00

The claim: A paraben, sulfate and silicone free moisture intense conditioner that leave curls moisturized, soft and manageable.

Directions: Apply moisturizing conditioner to hair after shampoo. Distribute evenly and leave on hair for 10 minutes. Detangle with widetooth comb and rinse. Gently blot clean hair with towel (do not rub). Leave hair damp and apply curl enhancing gel.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol (fatty alcohol derived from coconut helping the cuticle lie flat), Organic Olive oil, Jojoba oil, Avocado oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Quaternized Honey, Ivy Extract, Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol, Rosemary Extract, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (not a sulfate, derived from the rapeseed plant) Quaternium 87 & Sodium Lactate. Product is unscented.

Our review: Another amazing product! I applied this to Leelee's hair after using the black soap shampoo. Right away I noticed the amazing slip this product gave her hair. Detangling with the widetooth comb was no hassle. It ran through her hair so effortlessly it was unbelievable! I am seriously in love. I have not used a conditioner that brought results like this before. I was a bit worried though because when I first rinsed it out her hair felt a bit squeaky/stripped BUT amazingly it got soft after drying. I guess her hair was just really clean. Overall, a 4/5

Nakia Amour Curl Enhancing Gel 4 oz. $14.00

The claim: Nakia Amour Curl Enhancing Gel leaves curls soft, hydrated and conditioned without the crunch. One of the best hair gels for soft to medium textures.

Direction: Apply gel to damp curly hair to enhance curl definition and tame fly-aways. Divide hair into small sections and evenly distribute gel to hair with wide tooth comb or Denman brush. Work gel into each section then allow gel to completely dry before styling.

Ingredients: Water Olive oil, Organic Camelina Oil, Castor Oil, Aloe Vera, Polysorbate 20, Polyquaternium 10, Sodium Lactate & Germall. This light weight gel works best on 2a, 2b, 3b, 3c curl patterns. Product is unscented.

Our review: I cannot fully review this product because upon opening it and applying to her hair Leelee (or I) could not stand the smell! Its not awful its just something different we are not use too. Nakia informed me that the product is plant based and unscented. I'm not sure if it's the aloe vera or not but I couldnt apply it like I wanted on Leelee's hair because she was so bothered by the scent. Because the product was not fully applied like we should have our experience may be different.

Here is what I thought: After getting out the bath I got her hair sectioned and ready to apply the gel. I grabbed the bottom section and applied the product but that was as far as I got until she started to complain. The next day that section of hair was REALLY dry and tangled. I'm not sure if we didn't apply it right or it just didn't work for us, but I did not like it at all. It could also be because I didn't apply anything else. Usually, after getting out the bath I seal with coconut oil. Later, I tried again. This time I applied coconut oil to seal, a bit of Bee Mine luscious on top and then some of the gel later. This worked better for us but still wasn't in love with the results. Overall, 2.5/5

Our review on the entire line: LOVE and highly recommend. This is the first time using a line and all their products step-by-step. I am pleased with the results . The only thing I'm not too ecstatic about is the price. They are a bit pricey for the sizes offered. It is understandable though because everything is handmade. When I have extra funds to scrape up I would happily purchase the above products (minus the curl enhancing gel). Overall product line 4/5

Avanti Ultra flat iron review from Flat Iron Experts

I am so excited to do this review. Today I am reviewing the Avanti Ultra flat iron from Flat Iron Experts.

Prior to this flat iron I only have owned two others that were more high end and expensive. My first expensive flat iron was a Chi. It was a gift for graduation from my mom because I was always borrowing hers. At the beginning, I LOVED the Chi, it was nothing like I have ever used before (I have used con air or Mary-Kate and Ashley type ones). I also didnt straighten my hair a lot before because my hair is really straight to begin with. But as I was experimenting with coloring my hair and cutting it, it got damaged and was no longer as straight. Anyway, about 2 years later my Chi just broke! I was devastated. I went out to search for another and ended up buying the Corioliss Pro, which is what I currently use. I remember seeing it at the stands at the mall and someone even used it on me once. At first, I wasn't use to using this type because it didn't seem to run as smooth as the Chi did through my hair. It would get snagged but eventually I learned to work with it and it does its job.

NOW, with this Avanti flat iron I think I have been sold. I have never owned a flat iron that has titanium ceramic plates. This flat iron seems to glide through my hair so effortlessly. It also heats up really fast.

Here is my hair after using this product

Here are the pros: heats up fast, swival cord, glides effortlessly through hair, no frizzies, leaves my hair shiny and silky, has digital display and controls to control heat, heats up to 430 and cuts down style time.

Cons: there's nothing really bad about this flat iron. The only thing about it was that I was having a hard time trying to turn it on. Like a dummy I kept pressing the power button and when it wouldnt work I thought it was broken. I later found out I had to hold the power button until it turned on, same goes for turning it off. Another thing is that I haven't mastered crimping with this flat iron. Because the plates are so smooth and just slides through my hair its difficult for me to get it to crimp. I'm not sure if its just me but that is what I am experiencing.

Besides the flat iron I also tried out a new heat protectant, the KQC thermal shine. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: has a nice smell similiar to cologne, leaves hair with a nice shine.
Cons: I don't like how its in an aerosol can. And although I like the smell its a bit too overpowering at times.

Bee Mine Ayurvedic Herbal Bar review

photo from www.beemineproducts.comAlong with the Bee Mine Bee Lovely daily conditioner, I also received a sample size of the Bee Mine Ayurvedic Herbal Bar . I LOVE this stuff! This was the first time using a shampoo bar and I'm glad I had a good experience. Because it was a sample size it was smaller and possibly easier to work with compared to the full size. I also purchased their clarifying bar but still have not used it yet. This shampoo bar lathered up really easily and smells wonderful. Very herbal! I liked that it cleaned her hair thoroughly without feeling too stripped. It also left her hair shiny! It seriously is amazing. It is almost used up already and I will def be purchasing again and thankfully it is not too expensive!


I have also read that it is a great facial and body cleanser as well. By the time I read that info though the bar was already gone, plus I used it strictly for her hair and didn't break any pieces off. I wouldn't feel comfortable using it for anything else after it has only been used for her hair. review: bee mine bee lovely moisturizing daily conditioner

I received this sample of Bee Mine Bee Lovely Moisturizing daily conditioner as a sample when I ordered during their customer appreciation sale. I tried this product out once on Leelee as a leave-in and did not like it at all. I didn't bother to try it as a conditioner for her either since the amount is so small. While trying to figure out what would work on Babydoll's hair, I decided to use this. And on her the results are amazing! Its very light in consistency. It moisturizes her hair and leaves it feeling very soft. The smell is also wonderful- a coconut scent. I use it for Babydoll as a leave-in and light conditioner. I would love to purchase this in the full size for her. I'm glad it worked out for us. What product do you use as a daily leave-in?

Extra virgin olive oil on natural hair

I have read about using extra virgin olive oil in hair as a pre-poo and always wanted to try it. I finally bought some EVOO (in my Rachel Ray voice) and got to work. I have only used this 3x and have liked the results. The first time I applied the EVOO while I was taking out a style. The bottom portion was much smaller and easier to coat while e top I got a bit lazy and just smoothed it all over. I then placed a shower cap on her head and let her wear it for about 25-30. It was the first time she ever had anything on her head (she doesn't wear a sleep cap at night) and she was getting a bit irritated off of it. I then got her in the bath and washed it off and then shampooed and conditioned. Like I said, the first time the bottom portion was a small section and easy to coat so that's where I saw the results. It was really soft and shiny. Whereas, the top was soft and shiny here and there.
The second time the results were a bit better but not like I wanted. Here are the results third time we tried it:

I like it so far but I think I need a better way to apply the oil and find out exactly how much. The first and last time was reallly oily and everywhere she laid made stains! Also, I wasn't sure if I was suppose to shampoo and condition or just co-wash (I shampooed and conditioned every time).on the plus side, I love the results. It leaves her hair soft and shiny and when it dries it doesn't shrink as much. Do you use EVOO? How do you do it? Any tips or tricks?

Queen Helene Royal Curl, Curl Shaping Cream Review

Again, the pics arent the best, but im working with what I got!

Yes, I jumped on the bandwagon and bought Queen Helene Royal Curls Curl Shaping Cream after I read Baby Big Hair's review here and BBB here So I basically bought this product because I loved the results I saw from their review. Especially when they both mentioned that it weighed down their daughter's hair and didn't cause a lot of shrinkage. When putting products in Leelee's hair to be worn out thats all I experience - major shrinkage! I was hoping this product would do the same for us.

So let me begin by saying I went on the Queen Helene website to look for where I can find the product. It said a local store had it in stock but when I called they told me that was incorrect, but they would be happy to do a special order. A week went by and they notified me. When I went into the store I found out they only ordered one..I was hoping it would be a whole order but I guess not. It was okay though, they also didnt have a price for it and I remember it going for $7.99 and they told me "how bout 6.99?" Awesome! Can't be that for a 15oz!

First time using this I did not do it on clean hair. I took out a style and put the curl cream in. I LOVED it! I'm going to try my best to explain something here. When Leelee wears down and out hair she has two kinds depending on what products were used. One type is where her hair shrinks up and the curls are all clumped together and pretty uniform. They will hardly budge because they are so together. Another (which I love and is my favorite) is where her hair is all bouncy and curls are so defined. I can brush my fingers through her hair and its just so fluffy and bouncy. They shrink as well but after awhile, not instantly. I hope I made sense! This is what that cream did, it made her hair so fluffy I seriously love it! It still shrank her hair and didnt weigh it down too much but I think its because her hair is really fine and not much length yet. The only thing about it is that I wasn't too fond of the smell. It was too much for me. It smells good, but overpowering to my nose. Also, I realized that the ingredients aren't all natural, there were ingredients I couldn't pronounce but whatever. I will def be trying this product out again on clean hair and figuring out the best way it will work for us. I'm a little disappointed that the store doesn't care their line either but its ok I don't need to be spending anymore money! I will keep updating on how this works for us.

product review: Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie

I bought this during Walgreen's BOGO sale along with the curl and style milk. I was running low on the Bee Mine luscious balanced moisturizer and needed a replacement so I decided to try these out after reading a review on BBB. At first, I did not like it AT.ALL. I was comparing it to the Bee Mine too much because it was the only product I used. Also, the smell was too overpowering for me at first but then I've gotten use to it. When I first used the product, I think I was being heavy handed because it would leave a white residue and feel dried out after awhile. After using it for awhile I learned to apply the right amount. I will say that it did its job and I like it for back up if I don't have Bee Mine. I will def be purchasing these products again. For $9.99 its a good deal to me! When using this product I use it with the Bee Mine Curly Hold Butter or Ecostyler gel. I realized I may not be using a lot of my products correctly. I pretty much use what I have for braiding. Id love to get feedback, If you have this product how do you use it?

Review: Bee Mine Curly Hold Butter (unscented)

So far, I love Bee Mine products and hope to try more of their line. The curly hold butter is one of the products I always see highly recommended besides the Bee Mine luscious balanced moisturizer, so of course I had to try it out for myself. One of the main things I love about Bee Mine is their generous amounts in each jar, its always filled to the brim! So I always feel I am getting my moneys worth. Also, their ingredients are awesome. Everything is natural and good for the hair.

I've been using the curly hold butter since Nov 2010 and I really like it. I use this product with a moistuizing one. When doing styles with the Bee Mine curly butter, I use either the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie or the Bee Mine luscius balanced moisturizer and get great results. As for the product alone, not so much. When used alone it tends to leave Leelee's hair crunchy and leave a weird feeling. If you are getting these results try using it with another product. review: Garnier Fructis shampoo olive, shea, avocado

I did a review awhile back on the Garnier Fructis Fortifying Conditioner Triple Nutrition Olive, Avocado and Shea (phew, thats a mouthful!) that I had bought, so now its time for the shampoo review. I finished the 13 fl oz conditioner pretty fast and when I went back to buy some more I was in a hurry and actually bought the shampoo on accident. When I returned I bought both the (correct!) big bottles of the shampoo and conditioner. Now, the first shampoo that I had bought on accident was labeled "dry, damaged hair" the other two, along with the very first conditioner I bought of this line is labeled "extra, dry damaged hair". I tried to go through the ingredients and kept getting mixed up but there is a noticeable difference between the dry and extra dry as far as the shampoos go. The shampoo labeled for dry, damaged hair was clear in color and pretty much felt like any other shampoo. It left that stripped feeling when washed out. The shampoo labeled for extra, dry damaged hair looked just like the conditioner. It was light in color and oily. I LOVED IT!!

**EDIT: I forgot to show how different they are in color. As I went to take this pic I noticed the "dry, damaged" (clear) the consistency was more runny. The "extra, dr damaged" was more thick but not too thick and oily if that makes sense.

I stopped using the other shampoo and have stuck with both the shampoo and conditioner labeled for extra, dry damaged hair. It works sooo well on LeeLee that I'm pretty sure I will keep buying these products. Have you tried this line? How has it worked for you?

Darcy's Botanicals Daily Leave-in and Organic Coconut Butter Pomade Review

I realized I havent done many product reviews. I dont feel like I can give a thorough review of a product unless I have used it for a long period and even tried alternatives to make it work. I just recently have learned to do my daughter's hair so I havent tried too many product lines. Since its been awhile, I will start with the very fist product and brand that I tried after learning about the bad ingredients and using all natural. The first hair care blog I ever found was Happy Girl Hair and because of her I decided to try out Darcy's Botanicals. It was my first "big splurge" I'm usually very cheap and I never in a million years would have thought id spend more than $5 on any hair product! I only chose two items because browsing through the site was very overwhelming, I was still learning and didn't fully understand the difference between leavin-in, pomade, butter etc. I bought the Vanilla Delight Daily Leave-In Conditioner and Organic Coconut Butter Styling Pomade. I love, love, love the Vanilla Delight leave-in and actually have used it all up. At first the smell was a little too weird and strong for me but I eventually got use to it. I would apply it immediately after she got out the shower and when it fully dried it would leave her curls so bouncy and defined. It never left it crunchy or hard. The consistency is light and milky so its easy to apply. The coconut pomade on the other hand I'm not so sure. Back then it was the only product I used. I would use it alone and I didn't really like the results. Since its mostly coconut oil it is really oily. It would moisturize her hair and then end up feeling really dry after. I actually purchased some Bee Mine after and once I used the luscious balanced moisturizer I put the coconut pomade up and I havent used it since. I may use it for her ends and mine as well. I tried to look on their website and they no longer have the vanilla delight but I will def buy some more of the leave-in when I have a chance. I believe its the best I have used so far. Review: Garnier Fructis avocado, olive and shea conditioner

I've seen the commercial for this on tv and wanted to try it because of the avocado, olive and shea- it just sounded like it would be something good for the hair. There was also a post on the BBB FB page about it (Hi, LaShauna!) and I thought, I need to pick this up. I wasn't really looking for a shampoo just another good conditioner so I only picked up the conditioner. Most products I use on Leelee for styling or moisture I don't use on myself, so I don't know exactly how it feels. Even though it may moisturize or hold well I don't know how it feels for her on her own head..if its too heavy on the scalp or feels dirty. Does that make sense? Anyway, only products I use that she uses is shampoo and conditioner. When I first used it on Leelee's hair, I left it in for a couple minutes like I always do with every conditioner before washing out. I instantly liked it! When she got out it left her hair super soft, bouncy and even had a lil shine. It was detangled well with no knots whatsoever. All I did was moisturize/seal with coconut oil and it was perfect. As for myself, it is the same- I LOVE IT! My hair is stick straight, damaged and tangles a lot. Whenever I get out of the shower I wrap it up into a towel and usually leave it for 20 minutes or so because I just hate dealing with it. After using this conditioner and leaving my hair thrown into a towel, it left my hair SOOOO soft and detangled. I was really surprised! I seriously loved it. I was able to run my hands through my hair with barely (if any!) knots ..it slipped straight through. The only con I can think about for me is that it kind of leaves my hair oily looking after a couple days. Its bad for my hair type because it'll just look oily and dirty but its perfect for Leelee's dry hair that needs that extra moisture. I'm still in love with the fact that it leaves my hair super soft though. I've used Suave almond and shea conditioner, Aussie moist, Organix coconut and milk and even Organix moroccan argon oil and they all left me with the same result- soft after rinsing it out and then nasty and tangled afterwards (and I was use to this result) I am glad to say this product is different. Its really a must have that I will keep buying! Btw, when I purchased this I also got the Aussie Moist as well and guess what I'm doing......returning it!
