protective mohawk style

You already know how I looooooove mohawks. I really enjoyed this style. I was able to switch it up in many different ways. See below!!
here is the infamous braided braids (:
sectioned off "banded" style.
the back
something different I tried out. I flat twisted the whole thing and then pulled it up to form the "U" shape. I think it came out somewhat cute!

Hope you all enjoyed the style! Until next time...(hopefully, it wont be too long)

snagged style: braided hairstyle

I got this style idea from a hairstyle I saw tagged on Facebook somewhere, so I did NOT come up with this style. Its a version of it!

kid's braided hairstyle part II

I wanted to update on the current style we have in now. If you missed the first post check out kid's braided hairstyle

As you can see in the previous post all I did to the style was braid it all together and either secure it at the back or leave it to hang on the side like a ponytail.

To switch up the style a bit I left her hair braided together in the left side. Once I got to the right side I gathered hair and braided it together like this to get this look
I then added beads. These are glow in the dark beads and our first time using them. They don't glow too much at night unless you "charge" them by putting them close to light beforehand.

side braided style with braid out

Have you ever sat down to do a style and had no idea where you were going with it? Squirmy kid? Frustrated? Didnt turn out how you wanted? AND didnt want to even bother taking it out after all the time spent? Well thats what happened to us with this style!

The idea came from thisstyle by natural-hair-care-info.com

Check out boysandgirlsnaturalcurls to see the original blooper style!

Here is how we fixed it

kid's braided hairstyle

Im not sure what to call this style. It can be similiar to a braided headband (if its braided closer to the front) or even a horizontal mohawk. its very similiar.
After its all braided up you can either wrap it around in the back and secure with a bobbypin or let it hang like a side pony (:

natural mohawk switched up

Here's a style I did. It leans to the side a lil with random parts and not directly in the middle. I switched it up once but there are numerous way this style can be worn.
here is the original style

here it is braided in one big braid
another, with the braid undone to give it that crinkly look with a flower to accessorize.

4-in-1-style

I didn't update on Leelee's new hair style too fast because right when I was done I had a ton of style variations in mind and wanted to make it all one post. Again, when I styled everything was random. I had no style in mind and just braided as I went. I will try and make this as much as a tutorial as I can since its what my blog is lacking. I'm really bad at describing things so please bare with me (:

I started on banded hair. see post here I sectioned her hair into four parts by dividing her hair vertically and then ear to ear. I started braiding the bottom left corner with four braids and the same thing with the botton right section. I wanted to switch the style up a bit so in the two top sections I decided to add criss-cross braids. On each section I started with one braid, a criss-cross braid and then two more braids. So, in total on each top section, there were three regular braids and one cornrow braid in this pattern: regular braid, criss-cross braid, regular braid, regular braid. I hope I'm making sense lol ...onto the styles:

On the first night I was done (Saturday night) I decided to put her hair into a bun and leave it like that for the next day.

On Monday I took the bun down and braided all the loose ends together like this.

Tuesday I put it back into a bun and added a cute lil flower clip to dress her hair up.

Wednesday I unbraided the two very front braids and two back braids along with all the loose ends to create a mohawk look. I added a little poof in the front. For the loose hair I applied kinky curly curling custard because it curls her hair beautifully. I then secured random parts with bobby pins so it wouldn't fall apart.

I really wish I had better pics of the mohawk because it was sooo cute but she wouldn't cooperate with me at all. She's tired of me taking pics of her hair lol. I actually created 6 styles with this hairstyle but I didnt take pics of them. After I let her wear her hair in a mohawk the next day I gathered all the loose hair and smoothed the front and back and tied it into a bun. It was a cute lil puff ball on her head with the curls. Lastly, I undid all the braids for a braid out.

I hope you enjoyed this 4-in-1 style as much as we did. My favorite was the mohawk. She wore it like that for her cousin's birthday party and received lots of compliments. This goes to show that you can do really cute protective styles and always switch it up. Its ok to leave styles in even when there is frizz. Its fun to see what other style variations you can come up with. Be creative!

30 day challenge, day 6 - views on mainstream music
I HATE mainstream music ..well majority of them. I don't listen to the radio or watch music videos so I'm pretty late on whats new and what's "in". I use to always know music that came out before they got played but lately all the music I've heard I couldn't stand. Now, I'm not saying the type I listen to is better in any way shape or form because it definitely isn't. I think a lot of people would not even guess the type of music I like. I liked mainstream music back when it was AJ and Free on 106th and park, when they had tigger on rap city the basement, CMC with Chuy Gomez, Carson on TRL and when skinny jeans wasn't a thing for guys to wear. Get my drift?

cute by accident

I washed Leelee's hair Saturday night with garnier fructis oil, avocado and shea shampoo and conditioner. I applied some Bee Mine Bee Lovely moisturizing conditioner that I received as a sample when I ordered during their sale (idk how I forgot to mention this. I will make a separate post soon) and a generous amount of coconut oil to seal. I left her hair out until Monday night when I decided to do her hair and it was hard to manage. It was dry and tangled..I'm not sure if it had to do with the Bee Mine moisturizing conditioner which indicated it could be used as a light leave-in as well. I already had a feeling her hair wouldn't work well with it. Next, I will try it as a conditioner.

Since her head was hard to manage I used a little of the glycerin to spritz. I had a style in my head and it turned out nothing like I wanted. I was just braiding her hair and thinking ugh, I hate this style, idk what I'm doing. I didn't want to stop and take it out because I already did that for 30min and just wanted to get it over with. Finally, towards the end I figured out a way and decided to braid all the braids together (yes, like always!) . I have no idea what this style is called but I heard its called the allen iverson braids? I'm tired of saying braiding the braids together. Does anybody else know the proper name? What do you call it?

PSC Week 5

So I got my weeks mixed up and thought last week was the end. I even posted that little timeline of her styles throughout the challenge -____- anyway, her previous style was her hair braided in front and the back was out. I didn't want to do that all week long because im pretty sure it would get tangled and dry easily. I wanted to keep it protected. I washed her hair yesterday with Organix Shea shampo and conditioned with Garnier Fructis olive, avocado and shea conditioner. I finished styling today. I did her front and half of one side last night. I also bought some eco styler gel and I'm liking it so far. I used it to style along with Beemine luscious and curly hold butter. I tried to up the style a bit by adding a crisscross braid on each side. I need more practice with those! I'm hoping this style will last a week. I will refresh with some eco styler gel and spritz with Palmer's olive oil. This challenge has def been fun and I loved seeing all the designs and hair regimen and products used with each participant.

Protective Style Challenge: Weekly Styles

SIDENOTE: I always update from my phone through email and everytime I upload a pic it automatically gets positioned at the beginning of the post, no matter how many pics it just posts one after the other. That bugs me so much! And its so confusing to edit and rearrange the codes. I wish there was an easier way. I just wanted to let everyone know in case it bugs them, too. Lol

Since this is the last week of BBB's month long protective style challenge I decided to do a post on the styles that I did on Leelee.

First collage:
The top pic is the style I did for? week 1.
Pictures 2 and 3 are variations of the week 2 style.
Pic 4 is the 2nd style I did during week 2.
Pic 5 is the back of the style I did for week 3.
Pic 6 is the top of the style I did for week 4.
Pic 7 is the back of the style for week 4.
Pic 8 is the updated and new style for week 4.
Pic 9 is the back of how I left her hair when styled for week 4 with the updated new style.

PSC Week 4 update

On Tuesday I took out the previous style I had done earlier this week. I let her wear her hair out for the rest of that day until Wednesday night. Pictured above is how I did her hair Wednesday. I tied it loosely into a ponytail with an ouchless ponytail holder and placed a bow to style it up a bit. I washed her hair Thursday night with Garnier Fructic olive, avocado and shea shampoo and conditioner. I then used coconut oil to seal when she got out like I've been doing. I then styled her hair today with two cornrows at the front and left the back unstyled so that I can either put it into two pony tails with an ouchless ponytail holder (pictured above) or just loosely out. I will keep this style in the rest of the challenge. I styled with Shea Moisture curl smoothie and my shea mixture. I will be spritzing and moisturizing the back of her hair daily with water and conditioner and probably use coconut oil and Palmer's olive oil as well.

PSC Week 4

I took out last weeks style on Friday. I washed with Organix Shea shampoo and conditioned with the wonderful Garnier Fructis olive, avocado and shea conditioner (see review below) and added coconut oil as a moisturizer when she got out. I styled Saturday with yet another random design. I seriously have no ideas anymore and it didn't come out like I expected it to. I was trying to think of a style that would last the rest of the challenge but couldn't come up with anything. Id love to do box braids but I know it wouldn't hold well without a rubberband at the base. Leelee's hair does this weird thing where styles esp braids tend to pop up and bend all over the place after a nights sleep. Any ideas as to why?

I used a little bit of Bee Mine curly hold butter, Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie and my shea mixture. I focused on using the curly hold butter and shea mixture on her ends. I will try to keep this style in as long as possible and just try to tweak it a little but I'm not too sure since I'm not satisfied with how it looks. We will see how it holds up.

PSC Update: Style Variation Week 3

For this weeks style I couldn't do a lot of different style variations. I was only able to change the pony holders whenever she went out. I put a cute pink and silver ouchless ponytail holder on each section to match her outfit. I also ended up braiding all the braids together (again, yes! I love the look! Lol) because after a couple days the braids that were loose sticking out started to look funky and go every which way. I rinsed her hair with the style in tue night and will take it out sometime today and prepare for next weeks style.

PSC Week 3

I took out last weeks style on Thursday. I washed her hair Friday night with Organix Shea Shampoo and conditioned with Garnier Fructis olive, avocado and shea (review coming REAL soon!). I moisturized with coconut oil afterwards when she got out. Today (Saturday), I started to style and just randomly did a design like always. As I was braiding I was spritzing a mixture of water, shampoo and vit E into her hair and would coat with coconut oil and a bit of Bee Mine Curly Hold Butter. I held each section in place with a cloth pony holder. I think it came out pretty good. Before this challenge, I was NOT good at braiding whatsoever. I wouldn't even attempt to do any, let alone a full head but I think I'm getting the hang of it! I may change the style midweek depending on how it is looking.

PSC Update Style Variation & New Style

I'm updating to show how I switched up her style a few times. For one look I sectioned 3 different parts of her hair and used a cloth ponytail holder to keep them in place. 2nd, I just gathered it all up and placed it in a high ponytail using an ouchless ponytail holder and last but not least, before I took out the style completely I did a braidout for the ends to get that cute mohawk look.

I took out the style on Tuesday and did a new one. I just sectioned off the botton half and cornrowed six going down and the top part was just pretty random. I styled with Bee Mine Curly Hold Butter and shea butter mix. I will keep this style in until Friday or so and let her wear it out for a day or so and wash her hair and restyle for next week.

Protective Style Challenge Week 2

This week I decided to cornrow her hair in rows horizontally and just braid down together where they all met. I lightly cowashed her hair with Giovanni Tea Tree Conditioner (see other post) with her previous style in on Thursday and did this style Friday immediately after taking out the other style. I may take this out on Monday or Tuesday because it is already starting mess up and I think it is because I didnt use a lot of product like I did with the last. I even used a small cloth pony holder at the end so that it will hold together. I used a bit of Shea Moisture Smoothie to style. I didnt apply the Bee Mine hold or the shea butter mix I use and I will start since I'm noticing a difference. Stay tuned for the midweek update for a new style.

Protective Style Challenge Week 1

I'm participating in a Protective Style Challenge that Beads, Braids and Beyond is having. At first I didn't think I would be able to do it but so far for the first week its going really good. Because of the texture of my daughter's hair I style it 3-4x a week. Styles usually do not last long. I wanted to participate so that I could give my daughter a break and style maybe just once or twice because I know she is tired of me touching her head! Lol

This is the style I did for the first week and it has held up nicely. It did get frizzy but it wasn't too bad. I had done another style before this for the challenge but took it out last minute because it wasn't holding up too well. So instead of Sunday, I did this style and submitted it on Tuesday (the last day). This was done on 3 day hair. I washed her hair Saturday night with Organix Shea butter shampoo and used Suave Shea and Almond conditioner. When she got out I used Shea Moisture Curl Milk on her hair for moisturizing. I used Bee Mine's Curly Hold Butter and Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie for braiding. I applied a mixture of shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil and vit e oil on her ends so that it wouldnt get too dry. I also spritzed a bit of Palmer's Olive Oil to her braids to refresh and applied the shea butter mix on her ends daily.

This is the longest style to ever stay in here hair-3 days. And also the first style to wash in. I usually always take out a style prior to washing but I left these in and I wasn't sure what to do but I just sprayed a mixture of conditioner and water and rinsed it. I didn't care too much how it left the style because I knew I was going to take it out the next day. Stay tuned for next weeks style!
