DIY From drab to FAB earrings

I saw these cute glitter bamboo earrings that Nadia was selling that she made herself. I wanted to purchase them the same time I bought these from her. I realized I had bamboo earrings of my own and even some glitter I could spare, so I got to work! I didn't mind experimenting on the ones I had because I didn't wear them often anyway.
To get this look this is what I used:
Old pair of bamboo earrings
Ibd brush-on nail glue (sallys)
Sally girl sparke effects (sallys)
Jordana nail polish in silver glitter (grocery store)
2 pieces of paper

I had the earrings flat on a piece of paper and brushed on the nail glue in small sections. Then, I sprinkled some glitter until the section was coated. I lifted the earring and transfered it to the other paper and brushed on the glue wherever I left off. Then, id gather the piece of paper I previously used and fold it so that all the excess glitter would come together and then I poured that over where the glue was placed. I kept repeating this process till the glitter was done and then I would add more. After one side was done, I let it dry for 30min or so and do the same to the other side. When both sides were done and dry, I went over it with the silver nail polish to "seal" the glitter.

to fab!

our glycerin mix

I love when Leelee's curls are like that - bouncy and fluffy. I've unintentionally done it to her hair a couple times so I don't remember what products I used. Lately, I've been experimenting and I think I found the answer. I watched a video on YouTube by ulovemegz here where she showed a tip on adding glycerin to your conditioner for cowashes which would add extra moisture. Glycerin is a humectant which means it attracts moisture. Since she said it was good for cowashes I immediately wanted to try it. I wanted to see if there would be a big difference if I added it to the conditioners that left Leelee's hair feeling stripped after (organix coconut and milk, giovani tea tree triple treat). First of all let me tell you....I didn't know which glycerin to look for. I've heard of glycerin and vegetable glycerin and apparently they are still the same but I think glycerin is easier to find unless you are at a health food store where vegetable glycerin can be found. Here was my experience, I kept asking for vegetable glycerin. I went to my grocery store (Bel Air) and they couldn't find it and never heard of it. I even called Rite Aid because I seen a video of a girl who purchased hers from there and they said the same! Anyway, I ended up going to Walmart and they didn't fail me. I went directly to the pharmacy and they pointed me in the right direction. I believe it was near the band aids.

Besides the glycerin she also added a little olive oil into the mix and I was also reading a few of the comments and there were mentions of some adding castor oil to conditioner. I never thought to try any of this. I pretty much eyeballed and did what i felt like her hair needed a lot of so I don't have exact measurements . My advice is to just go by what your hair (or your child's) needs. The items I used : organix coconut milk conditioner, glycerin, castor oil, vitamin e oil and olive oil.

As you can see the olive oil is already in the container. Its only a little bit since that was all I had left. I then added all the other ingredients.

I realized I added too much oil but I found a way to fix everything and make it work. Here is what the final mixture looks like.

I first tried it on my hair because I'm scared of ruining hers. I know our hair isn't the complete opposite but I would rather sacrifice my already damaged hair. I did a little test on my ends and it left it really stringy and dry. I didn't leave it in for a couple minutes though. Anything having to do with my hair is a fail so I didn't even bother. I tried again using it with another conditioner and nothing happened. I was afraid I wasted all the products. Then, when I was taking out one of her styles I decided to use the mix with water and.......it worked great! I loved it. I never use one product alone of course though so I'm not sure of this also has anything to do with it.

When taking down her style I sprayed with the mix and added some shea moisture curl and style milk then I would seal with a generous amount of coconut oil. On her her hairline and nape of the neck I use our shea mix to moistuize. And this is what we got.

So far, I like it and it works for us. Another way I achieved this look (after a style takedown) is by spraying with any conditioner and water and then applying all the same products after that I mentioned above. I will keep up with this and update to let you know of this is indeed the answer. Have you used a mix like this? What other mixes do you or have you used with these ingredients? What is your experience?

Sorry for the poor pics..you can view more on our facebook page.

organizing hair products and accessories

So I went to jo-ann fabrics yesterday and wanted to find an organizer case to hold beads. I found one similiar to something I seen at Walmart. It was $9 but on sale 50% off so it turned out to be around $4. I even picked up a little bin to put hair products in. The original price was for $3 and I got it for $1 and some change. There were a lot of storages and bins on sale. I'm not sure about details but if you're looking for stoirage cases and wanting to organize please make sure you stop at a Jo-Ann Fabrics in your area or call to see if they have sales because I thought it was a really good deal.

Since I finally bought a case to organize the beads I decided to do a post on how I organize hair products and accessories. Originally I was going to make a video so I could show stuff way better but after about 3 attempts I gave up. I'm so goofy, I was stumbling all over my words and I HATE the sound of my voice.

This is how I organize the ballies and barrettes. I have them sorted by color in a plastic container I bought from Big Lots for $2. I believe its originally for storing index cards. I have 5 cases - one for greens and yellows, blues and purples, pinks, and black/red/orange/white. I have another separate one where I store crocheted headbands.

This is a black storage container I got at Walmart for $5 in the office section. There are two drawers, two little compartments at the top and a little section that lifts up. In the two compartments I have the Created by Nature samples I haven't tried yet and just a small white bowl I use for when I soak rubberbands in olive oil before I use it.

This shows the little area that lifts up. I store random ponytail holders that have trinkets on them and a whole bunch of rubberbands.

Here is one of the drawers. Its all the ponytail holders I have separated by color each on a curtain ring. I got the idea from BBB, thanks!

Here is the other drawer and I just store random things in there. There are 3 packs of goody ouchless bands I got on sale at Walgreens for $1, some ponyholders I got in a hair kit at Walmart and these cute princess bottle cap clippies I won at an auction from Pretty Princess Hairbows (FB, check her out!) For only $2!

Just a bin with random things. There's a zilploc with cloth headbands so they don't get dirty. There's also a glue gun along with glue, other samples I haven't tried, other hard headbands, ponytail holders and new items I haven't stored yet.

These are the current hair products I use. It consist of Bee Mine's luscious moisturizer and Curly hold butter that I'm running low on :(
Ecostyler gel, my shea butter mixture, coconut oil, shea moisture curl and style milk, shea moisture curl smoothie, Palmer's olive oil spray and kkcc that I haven't tried yet. There is also a spray bottle that consists of conditioner and water.

Here is the organizer I bought from Jo-Ann Fabrics with stored beads and snaps and a few combs and clips for sectioning.

This is where I store a few unopened hair accessories.

Prior to all this I had everythng separated by color in individual ziploc bags and inside the hello kitty tin box I use in the pic above with unopened accessories. I got tired of that and started buying the clear cases. I'm somewhat feel better about how everything is organized but I'm not satisfied ..its not exactly how I want to do it and haven't figured out exactly how I will put together how I'm imagining it. yes, everything is organized but I feel like there's too many storages. I want everything to be in one place.

I also have created a bow board for the bow collection I'm beginning and I even added a little section with velcroed ribbon to easily add and remove headbands on the side as well.

Hope you enjoy and get some ideas from what I've shared!
