natural hair care basics part 2 - products

I highly recommend finding back up products that can be found in stores in your local area for those of you who purchase some products online. While you are waiting for your order you have something in its place that still gets the job done in the meantime. Here is the breakdown of our products and how we use them. note: these are products that work for us. Find out what works for YOU. We are still new to things and always learning so if you have the same products and use them differently or suggest something please leave a comment below (:

shampoo
Our choice:organix smoothing shea butter shampoo and Garnier Fructis olive, shea, avocado shampoo

Some also use a clarifying shampoo for build up, I use the organix as a clarifying shampoo and the garnier fructis whenever I wash her hair. Other clarifying shampoos I have but haven't used on Leelee's hair yet are: Suave naturals daily clarifying shampoo and Bee Mine clarifying shampoo bar.

conditioner
Our choice:Garnier Fructis olive, shea shampoo conditioner (LOVE this stuff!) To view other conditioners we've used click here.

There is also co-washing (only washing with conditioner) with one conditioner and then use of another conditioner after. I personally have not tried that yet and want to look into it. more info on that here.

*Leave-in
Our choice: shea moisture curl and style milk and Darcy's Botanicals daily leave-in conditioner (not pictured). I also have a sample of Bee Mines Bee lovely leave-in I use on Babydoll. I also have our glycerin mix I use as well.

A leave-in or hair milk can aid in refreshing the hair throughout the day or used after a wash. It provides moisture to the hair but is not a styling aid. I usually add the leave-in or hair milk after a bath. At this moment there is no leave-in I always apply after she gets out. I did with Darcy's Botanical leave-in but once I ran out I never had a chance to replace it. I plan to soon though. I would apply that whenever her hair needed refreshing when it was out and loose and esp after she got done washing her hair.

sealing
our choice: extra virgin coconut oil

The purpose of sealing is to seal in the moisture in your hair. You can use many oils to seal like avocado oil, jojoba oil or oliv oil. Our choice is coconut oil. I've read about people sealing after they get out from washing their hair. They are sealing in the water and to me that is the best moisture. Others however seal after applying a leave-in. To seal before or after a leave-in or moisturizing product is entirely up to you. I seal Leelee's hair with coconut oil when she gets out the shower. Sometimes when I remember I seal after using other products to keep in the moisture.

styling products
moisture: Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Moisturizer. I also have our shea mix (not pictured, will make a post about it soon).

for hold: ecostyler gel, bee mine curly hold butter, kinky curly curling custard (after I took the pic I realized I put this in the wrong section, I also use the curling custard for down and out hair. It defines Leelee's curls beautifully.)

tools and other misc items
Vitamin E oil, Castor oil and Glycerin

Many people use oils and other ingredients as well to enhance their products or even make their own products. I use some of these items in our shea mix or glycerin mix. Some people use it alone or added to products. Each has their own benefits.

tools
Toothbrush (ill explain), scalp massager, wide tooth comb, rat tail (pin tail) comb, boar brush (?)

I don't have an exact brush I use on Leelee's hair because it's fine and not too lengthy. I detangle with my fingers and go over with the widetooth comb. I recently bought the scalp massager and use it sometimes as a brush. I'm still working with it. The toothbrush is used for laying her baby hair down with gel. The rat tail comb or pintail comb I use only for making parts and it works really well. I also use it to take down braids with the pointy side. SOMETIMES ill brush her ends with it to get any small small knots out but its rare. The boar brush (I think thats what it is) I use to smooth her hair with when putting into a ponytail.

Hope this was helpful! Next post will be on our routine (:

Great post! Although, I have never used the eco gel because I'm so hooked on the Aloe Vera gel, I heard great things about it.

I am thinking about trying KC Curling Custard or Eco Styler... what do you ladies feel about the difference in those?

@ A Mothers Love - How do you use the aloe vera gel? I have tried it as a stand alone gel, but wasn't crazy about it!

Hey shelly, as I stated above after I took the pic of the "gels" I realized I put the kinky curly in the wrong section. I have heard of people using it as a gel for braid outs. I use the kinky curly so far for down n out hair because it defines her curls beautifully like I did with the mohawk (4-in-1-style). I use eco styler gel for braiding..I haven't tried both for braid outs...hmm maybe that will be a post (:

My bad the mohawk I guess is considered a braid out..I like the results!

Thanks Chellsea! I would definitely be using the product for curl definition so I should probably try the KCCC. I have heard so many good things about it!! Thank you! :-)

Natural hair care is one of the indispensable parts of beauty care. Shampoos should be used depending on the hair nature. Shikakai powder is the best for washing hair as there are no chemicals. Amla is good to retain the luster and hair color, while the coriander leaves are good to tone the hair. Thanks for informing about these natural hair product.
